Here is a look at scores from the diamond on Tuesday as baseball and softball season kicks off around the area:
Baseball
Cocke County 7, Morristown West 2
NEWPORT — Cocke County avenged Monday’s loss to the Trojans by taking down West 7-2. The Fighting Cocks scored five unanswered runs in the final two innings to take the win.
Talon Leas earned the win, pitching 6.2 innings and striking out 11 Trojans. The Fighting Cocks got runs on a wild pitch and a ground out to take a 2-0 lead in the top of the third. West was held scoreless until Logan Long and Caleb Rodrick singled in runs in the bottom of the fourth to tie it, but the Trojans couldn’t find any more runs as Cocke County pulled away in the final two frames.
Seymour 6, Morristown East 5
Morristown East rallied in the seventh inning but couldn’t complete the comeback, falling to Seymour, 6-5. Tucker Wyatt got East on the board first with a sacrifice bunt in the bottom of the third for a 1-0 lead. However, Reece Wilson hit a two-run inside the park home run in the next frame, followed by an RBI single to make it 3-1 Seymour after four.
The Eagles made it 4-1 in the top of the fifth with a sac fly before Luke Miracle scored on an error in the bottom of the frame to get it to 4-2. Trailing 6-2 entering the bottom of the seventh, Jordan Tipton scored on a fielder’s choice, and Tucker Wyatt drove in his second and third run with a two-out single to make it 6-5, but the comeback ended there as the next batter struck out.
Gibbs 2, Grainger 1
CORRYTON – Grainger started the baseball season with a masterful pitching performance until the very end against the Gibbs Eagles on Tuesday.
Newcomer to the program Garrett Keiter and returners Noah Larrance and Gabe Johnson combined to strike out 14 Gibbs batters but the Eagles were able to win the game with a walk-off base on balls to prevail 2-1.
Keiter fanned seven batters and allowed only two hits in four innings on the mound for the Grizzlies. Larrance recorded six strikeouts and one walk. Nolan Wallace had an RBI for the visitors. Gibbs pitchers also had a good day as they struck out 15 Grainger batters. Grainger plays University High on Thursday.
Lakeway 8, Greeneville 1
WHITE PINE – After losing their season opener on Monday in a heart-breaking walk-off double by Tennessee High, the Lakeway Christian Academy Lions came bouncing back on Tuesday to record a massive win against one of the best programs in the state.
Chase Gockenbach was a one-man wrecking crew against defending state champion Greeneville as he went 3-for-4 with five runs batted in to power the Lions to an 8-1 victory. He was a single short of hitting for the cycle as he had a double, triple and homerun in his five RBI day.
On the mound, Daniel Rodriguez was dealing as he struck out 10 Greene Devils and allowed only three hits in five innings of action. Joseph Stibler finished things off with two K’s in two innings. Luke Burnett had two hits and scored three times for LCA. They will be in action again on Thursday against Daniel Boone.
Grace Christian 3, Jefferson County 0
DANDRIDGE — Jefferson County turned in solid performances on the mound from Brody Carr and Jackson Ormonde, but it was shutout for the second straight game and fell to the Rams. Carr and Ormonde struckout five each in relief, but the Patriots had just one hit in the loss. Grace had homers from Easton Housewright and Max Misenhimer to power it to the win.
Softball
Morristown West 16, Grainger 6
RUTLEDGE – Nine runs in one inning will usually get a team a win and that’s what Morristown West did in Tuesday’s season-opener at Grainger, downing the Lady Grizzlies 16-6. The Lady Trojans scoring started in the top of the first inning as Kaylynn Milton smacked a solo shot to left field. She finished with three RBI’s in the contest.
Later, Grainger went up 5-3 when freshman Shylo Williford drove in two runs with a double and she added another double later in the game. Mackenzie Lucky and Kara Dyke each had three hits for West.
Dyke got the win for the Lady Trojans with seven strikeouts in six innings. Seven errors haunted the Lady Grizzlies in the loss. Destanee Davis had a double for Grainger.
Jefferson County 15, Cherokee 0 (4 innings)
The Lady Patriots opened the 2026 season with a 15-0 run rule of Cherokee on Tuesday.
Jefferson County saw a perfect 4-for-4 hitting performance from Kenzli Trent and three-RBI performances out of Kayli Reece and Carsyn Cobbett.
The Lady Patriots got started with a two-run double from Cobbett in the first as Trent, Kaycee Morgan and Cobbett again had RBI singles for a 6-0 lead after two.
Ansley Housewright hit an RBI-double to kick off a seven-run fourth inning to enforce the run rule and was capped by a three-run homer from Reece.
