Jefferson Middle student taken into custody following threat
A Jefferson Middle School student was removed from the facility and taken into custody after allegedly making a threat involving potential mass violence, school officials said.
After hearing of the threat, an investigation by school officials and local law enforcement began. As a result of that investigation the student was taken into custody.
“We take all threats very seriously,” school officials said in a release. “At no time were students or staff harmed, and there is not ongoing threat to our school. The safety of our students remains our top priority.
“We understand that seeing an increased police presence may have been concerning, and we appreciate the quick response and partnership of our local law enforcement. We also appreciate our students and staff for their cooperation and professionalism during the situation.
Students’ parents or guardians with concerns are encouraged to contact the school office directly.
