Lakeway players to receive NFF scholarships; Morristown’s Ermal Allen to be honored

Six Lakeway Area players who are elite scholars and a 1938 Morristown High graduate will be recognized this spring during the National Football Foundation-Mountain Empire Chapter’s 2026 Football Hall of Fame ceremony to be held Saturday, April 25 at 9:30 a.m. at the Double Tree Hotel in Johnson City at the organization’s awards banquet.

Named to receive scholarships are Landon Jeffers of Cherokee, Colton Smith of Greeneville, Mason Henderson of Jefferson County, Thomas Darnell of North Greene, Brant Wilhoit of South Greene and Brandon Begley of Volunteer.

Members of the 2026 Hall of Fame class to be inducted include Ermal Allen, a 1938 graduate of Morristown High School; Daniel Kilgore, a 2007 graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School; and Julius Jones, a 1998 graduate of Powell Valley High School (Virginia).

The John Robert Bell Award will be given to the late Tommy Hundley, who was a head football coach at Science Hill and Tennessee high schools. The James Cradic Football Game Official Award will be given to Doug Linebarger.

The National Football Foundation Hall of Fame is located inside Meadowview Conference Resort and Convention Center in Kingsport. It showcases the rich football tradition of the Mountain Empire Region, spanning Northeast Tennessee, Southwest Virginia and Western North Carolina. The Hall features historic memorabilia, player and coach photographs, video and exhibits celebrating the legacy of football throughout the region.
