The Avenue Dream Center to give out prom dresses

The Avenue Dream Center wants to help make school dances better by helping girls get the right dress; the ministry acquired a collection of more than 2000 dresses and will be giving them away at what they’re calling a “Prom Collective Event” on March 8, for free.

Prom dresses can cost hundreds of dollars and it may be difficult to find a dress that works for a price that makes sense; Matt Burton, The Avenue’s director of outreach, said the Dream Center wants to help solve that problem by taking price out of the equation.

“About six months ago, I got a call from a church in Jefferson City,” he explained. “They had thousands of prom dresses, and it was kind of taking over their (smaller) church, so they asked if we would be interested in taking them. It was a ministry called Cinderella’s Closet, and so I said, ‘sure.’

“We want to be able to provide a resource where parents don’t feel the strain of prom season and buying a dress that they’re going to just wear once. There’s plenty of sizes and colors and styles that girls will be able to choose from so they’re able to really create that memory, their high school prom memory.”

The dress give away will be at The Avenue, located at 6111 W. Andrew Johnson Highway in Morristown, on March 8 from 9 a.m. to noon. The dresses are for anyone in the greater Lakeway region that wants a prom dress and would like to come check out the enormous selection of what is described as “modern.”

“A lot of them are brand new with tags,” Burton said.

Dress sizes available in a wide range from sizes 0 through 20 and larger.

He said the team at the church wants to make sure that when the girls show up they have a good time and are treated to a special experience.

To that end, there will be various vendors present to help make sure the girls are pampered and will be providing exclusive promotional pricing for the event. These vendors include Ezmera Salon Studios, V.I.P. Hair Studio, Christina’s Arch Studio, Kelly Singleton Spray Tan and CMC Photography.
