McCrary Family Scholarship established at WSCC

The McCrary Family Memorial Scholarship has been established by Diane McCrary at Walters State Community College.
This endowed scholarship combines an endowment given to honor her brother, the late Stephen McCrary, with a scholarship endowment honoring their mother, the late Helen McCrary. This endowment was first opened by the late John McCrary, father of Diane and Stephen. Both Diane and Stephen McCrary are Walters State alumni.
“All three will be honored by this scholarship,” Diane McCrary, said.
“I know how important the time we spent at Walters State was to both of us. He was devoted to the work of the Walters State Foundation, so this endowment was a natural way to honor him.”
Stephen McCrary became a financial supporter of the college early in his career and served as a member of the executive committee of the Walters State Foundation. He was co-owner of Century 21 Masengill-McCrary Real Estate.
“I had the honor of knowing Stephen through his service on the Walters State Foundation,” Dr. Tony Miksa, president of Walters State, said. “He had a genuine concern for our students. The Walters State Foundation joins Diane in mourning his loss.”
Preference for the scholarship will be given to business majors from the college’s primary service area having documented financial need. Awards will be given solely from the interest earned on the endowment, ensuring that this scholarship continues in perpetuity.
The endowment is open for donations. For more information, contact Chris Cates, assistant vice president for college advancement at Walters State, at 423-585-2618.
