NEW TAZEWELL – Claiborne could never get their offense out of a funk on Friday night, dropping a 30-0 decision to Johnson County.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Longhorns scored seven seconds into the second but missed the conversion. Last week the Bulldogs were haunted by special teams and it happened again as a mistake in the punting game put Johnson County in business at the Claiborne 22. A few plays later, they were in the end zone again and converted the two-pointer to go up 14-0. The Bulldogs were backed up to the their own three yard line and the Longhorns took advantage, securing a safety and went up 16-0 at the half.
Tyrell Miles had a huge reception for Claiborne in the third that pushed the ball to the 20 but the offense stalled and the ball turned over on downs. Johnson County scored another touchdown but missed the conversion and then late in the third, punched the ball in again and was true on the conversion to make it 30-0. Korbin Hatfield stopped another possible scoring drive by the Longhorns as he picked off a pass in the end zone. The Bulldogs couldn’t get a drive to go in and lost 30-0.
Claiborne travels to Hancock County next Friday.
