Johnson, Evans lead West View over Meadowview

The West View Indians were dominant from front to back on Tuesday night in their 36-0 victory over Meadowview, and the offense wasted no time.

Skylan Johnson took his first carry, the first official play of the game, 75 yards to the house to give the Indians the 8-0 lead with 7:33 to go in the first.

On the ensuing Meadowview drive, a physical eleven-yard carry from Dylan Saylor helped the Vikings drive the ball down to the West View 34.

Saylor, bearing the number 70 on his jersey, brings a presence reminiscent of former Chicago Bears defensive tackle William Perry to the Vikings backfield. He carried the ball hard the entire night.

Unfortunately for Meadowview, the drive was ultimately halted by a fumble, recovered by the Indians.

Defensively, things were looking good for the Vikings as Ayden Mills picked up a big tackle to bring up third down on the following drive.

West View appeared to break through, however, as Skylan Johnson took the next carry for a 58-yard score, but the points were negated as the Indians were penalized for a block in the back.

It was one of two such penalties called on West View that eliminated touchdowns on the night, but they were able to score in both instances nonetheless.

Christian Evans picked up a 20-yard gain to give the Inidians the first, and finished the drive with a 15-yard score on a toss to the right side to give them the lead with 1:42 remaining in the first.

An elusive return from Jamil Contreras gave the Vikings the ball on the West View 49-yard line on the following kickoff, but an interception from the Indians’ Hayden Wild gave them the ball back with 49 seconds remaining in the quarter.

West View capitalized, putting an impressive drive together. A 12-yard catch from Johson, a 14-yarder from Jake Davis, both off of passes from Gabe Kimbrough, then a 19-yard touchdown carry from Evans to cap the drive off.

The play was called back for another block in the back, but Evans took the next carry for a 34-yard score to put the Indians up 20-0 with 7:35 to go in the half.

Jaden Stoll took a reverse for a 20-yard gain on the following drive for Meadowview, but the drive was halted and the Vikings were forced to punt.

A botched snap on the punt nearly spelled disaster for Meadowview, but Carlos

Diaz Perez made a great effort to field it and just get the kick off.

The ball only made it about 10 yards through the air before sailing out of bounds, alas, and Johnson only needed two carries to go 27 yards and put the Indians up 28-0.

With the ball back on, on their final drive of the half, the Vikings strung together their longest and most productive drive of the game.

A 12-yard connection from Maliek Denton to Braden Johnson, followed by an 8-yard carry from Johnson. A big first down grab from Contreras on third, a 10-yard carry from Saylor, and just like that, Meadowview was in the red zone.

With the Indian defense stiffening up, a fumble on third down had the Vikings scrambling to the line-of-scrimmage with the clock running out. A miscommunication on fourth down ended the drive, and the half shortly after.

West View opened up the half with an onside kick, which they recovered. Johnson took the first carry for 33 yards, and the second to the house, giving the Indians the 36-0 lead and victory.

West View improves to 1-1; Meadowview drops to 0-1.

Meadowview hits the turf again on Thursday, as they make up for last week’s cancellation against White Pine, before their bye next week. Next Tuesday, West View hits the gridiron against White Pine.
