Cosmetology School adds new course

Halo School of Cosmetology is adding a new course to its program and is now accepting walk in appointments.
“Our next enrollment begins September 11,” said Faithie Marie, co-owner and director. “We do enrollment every two months, so every two months we will have a new class of students coming in and learning.”
As new students come into the school, a new program will as well.
“We are offering new courses in September with the enrollment cycle,” said Jessie Bennett, an instructor. “We will be offering an esthetics course for those interested in becoming an esthetician.”
Students will begin working on clients, and the school is accepting walk-ins for that purpose.
“We are accepting walk-ins for students to work with,” said Marie. “We encourage anyone interested to come by and get their hair or nails done, get a wax or facial. If someone wants to call and make an appointment, they can definitely do that.”
Students in the current class have been learning nonstop to prepare for the incoming clients.
“They have worked hard since they got here,” Bennett said. “Currently students are learning on working with tightly curled hair and working with curlers.
“From 8 a.m. to around lunch time students are working on theory. That is our lecture time. Students will be learning from the book, going over PowerPoints and reviewing study notes. After lunch we take what we learned in the classroom and apply it to mannequins so students can get hands-on experience.”
“Once we begin taking appointments the schedule will shift and students will spend 8 a.m.-10 a.m. in the classroom and the rest of the day they will be working on real clients.”
As Bennett reflects on her first batch of students at the school, she highlights her love for teaching and the talent each student has.
“I love it, I love teaching.” Bennett said. “My students are amazing and I can’t wait for them to start working with clients.”
“They are really talented. What I’ve been seeing in the classroom and what they’ve been doing out here I know they’ll do great.”
The school opened its doors to students early June and is thankful for the support of the community.
“Everything has been going well and the community has welcomed us with open arms,” Marie said. “I feel like we’re going to continue to grow in the area.”
“Everything we have set forth we have achieved,” Bennett said. “Every goal we set we achieve and it’s been so amazing to see our dreams unfold.”
However, with two months under its belt, the school is looking to the future.
“Right now we have cosmetology, nails and instructor courses and in the future we want to add more programs to our school,” Bennett said.
“Our next goal is to expand to the space next door to us. Once we get to the point where we can purchase the other side of the building we want to have one side for our classrooms and class work and the other to be our shop side where students will work on clients and do other hands-on work.”
Students at the school explained why they chose to enroll at Halo School of Cosmetology.
“When I visited the school I immediately felt welcome and at home,” Anahi Hernandez said.“We are a real family and work well together.”
Ruby Merchant echoed Hernandez’s sentiment but also noted the school’s dedication to teaching students how to work on all textures of hair, a key reason she enrolled.
“I love the whole environment and the people here,” Merchant said. “I love the bond we built together. As soon as the first day started we instantly connected.”
“You always see on Facebook where people are looking for hair stylist who work with tightly textured hair and that what’s what inspired me to come here because they mentioned how a focus for them is to teach students to learn about the different textures of hair and I wanted to be a hair stylist who could work on anyone who came to me.”
The school offers four different courses, cosmetology, nail tech and instructor, with the addition of the new esthetician course.
