Hurricane Watch – Getting into the full swing of sports season
B
And with that, the second week of the 2023-2024 school year comes to a close.
As the students and staff continue to settle in, we begin to see emerging names on the East High scene.
The volleyball team played in their Jamboree on Thursday at home winning in a clean sweep against Morristown West, Cocke County, Sevier County, and Jefferson County.
They will head to their next endeavor on Monday, August 14th, at a Tri-match versus TN High, Greenville, and Grainger.
Morristown East Advanced Choir elections have revealed the new officers for this school year to be Jay Harrison and Rhyder Short as President and Vice President, Chris Sauceman as Chaplain, Allie Alder as Historian, Lindsee Thornton and Tara Hemminger as co-treasurers, and Angela Elkins and Parker Dale as co-librarians.
The Women’s Choir also picked Danni Bishop as President, Amanda Bean as Vice President, Riley Drinnon as Chaplain, Reagan Dalton as Historian, Josie Seal and Kassie Stewart as co-treasurers, and Karen Cruz Martinez and Margarita Moralez Martinez as co-librarians to represent them going forward.
The East High Football team, continuing their scrimmage schedule, travelled to TN High last Friday— but both theirs and the cheerleaders’ sights turned very readily to the jamboree at Carson Newman on Thursday.
Their game against CAK ended in a 0-3 finish, their JV meeting against CAK ended in a 20-0 finish, and East versus Grace Christian ended at 6-6.
And another reminder that next week at East is spirit week.
Monday is rhyme without reason, Tuesday is generations day, Wednesday is Barbenheimer day, Thursday is dress like a principal day, and Friday is Jailbreak.
This, of course, is leading up to the much anticipated Citizen Tribune Kickoff Classic Next Friday August 18th.
Their following match up will be a home match against Hardin Valley on the 24th. The Senior Parking spot painting date is this Saturday August 12–and the rain date is August 19th– so seniors, make sure you and your families are there and ready to paint up a storm!
We hope to see the wonderful new designs represent the face of the upperclassmen going forward into the rest of the school year.
Students taking Dual Enrollment Classes are reveling in the last week of break going into the week of the 14th as classes for Walters State begin on the 21st of August.
High school and college students alike are gearing up for the rigor of their fall semester schedules.
The dance and cheer teams continue their practices in the face of their season debut.
We are happy to report that the East High Dance Ensemble will sport gorgeous new uniforms and new and improved routines for the big game.
The Cheerleaders with their diverse composition of all grades will show just what East High is made of as they polish their work in preparation for its public display.
Clubs and other organizations have also started to gather as JROTC starts meeting again. With Cadet Commander Annabeth Workman taking over the position of the graduated Olivia Lamb.
Their training for both regular proceedings and inter–school competition teams will be reported on in the coming articles.
The new staff members are sure to bring new clubs to throw into East’s mix, as all students have the opportunity to get involved in smaller and more specific organizations that coincide with their interests.
It’s been a great start to the school year, and I think I can speak for everyone when I say I’m excited for all that the next couple of weeks will bring.
