Brogan Access Area reopens on Norris Lake
B
The Judge Willard J. Brogan Access Area on Norris Lake, which was originally supposed to be temporarily closed for renovations from July 17 through Aug. 30, is open to the public ahead of schedule.
A dedication ceremony to commemorate the event was held on Aug. 4 just before striping the newly paved lot. The following Monday it was reopened. This was a much sooner completion date than anticipated.
Upgrades to the Access Area include grading, paving and striping the new lot for up to 36 more vehicle/boat trailer parking spaces and approximately 20 additional vehicle or Jet Ski spaces.
This newly renovated area allows access to Norris Lake in Anderson County which is a reservoir known for its optimization of recreation like fishing, camping, watersports and more.
The engineering and execution of this project was funded by a $316,761 grant given by the Appalachian Regional Commission, Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, Claiborne County Government, and Powell Valley Electrical Cooperative.
Phase II of the project will commence this winter. A 30 feet wide ramp will be built while the lake level is lowered for the colder season.
Bass fishing is a commonly successful activity at Norris Lake due to it being well-stocked, and with up to 14 types of fish.
