The Morristown Police Department issued an announcement stating that K-9 Riot retired on July 20.
Riot served the MPD and communities within Hamblen County for approximately 8 years at the time of his retirement. He and his partner, Detective Blake McCarter, have worked together since February 2016.
On the job, Riot engaged in jobs that consisted of narcotic odor detection, off and on-leash obedience, area searches, tracking, officer protection and criminal apprehension. He had a successful career with the MPD.
K-9 Riot has been to many community events, helped with the arrest of criminals and assisted many officers in narcotic detection. Due to all of his hard work, Riot has received multiple awards throughout his employment.
Riot’s retirement comes with getting older and the promotion of McCarter in 2022, though the duo remained part of the K-9 unit until their replacements were certified.
As well as his dedication and contribution to MPD, Riot’s assistance has been asked for by surrounding agencies, to include at the state and federal levels.
Upon his retirement, K-9 Riot will go to a good home and be able to stay with McCarter.
“Riot is looking forward to retirement by relaxing on top of his dog house when he is not running after his favorite toy or chasing chickens in the yard,” McCarter said.
