The Morristown West baseball field will look quite different when the Trojans take the field for the 2024 baseball season.
On Monday, Morristown West broke ground for their new infield turf, as well as a new backstop. The turf will come from FieldTurf, the same company that turfed Lindsey Nelson Stadium at the University of Tennessee.
The new backstop will include new bricks and a new post and netting system. Wild Building will lead construction of that project.
“These are exciting time right now for the Morristown West baseball program,” West head coach Justin Pickett said. “We want to thank our parents, booster club, donors, player sponsors, school board and David and Lance Wild. They spend a lot of time, effort and money to make our baseball program one of the best in the state of Tennessee.”
The improvement to the facilities come just one year after West was awarded the 2022 Baseball Field of the Year in the state of Tennessee.
The project will finish up well before the start of the 2024 baseball season and will allow West to host middle school games, tournaments and travel ball.
