Man comes to aid of endangered infant, contacts authorities
A man providing a mother and infant child a ride to the airport became alarmed and came to the rescue when he contacted authorities on the child’s behalf.
Michael Poindexter asked for a welfare check as the mother and child were scheduled to fly back to California where she lives with her boyfriend.
Poindexter, who was giving Tiffiny Mullins a ride to the airport, said that she had asked him if they could stop at a gas station to get “clear,” meaning methamphetamine.
Poindexter told authorities that during the ride to the airport, Mullins was “nodding in and out” of consciousness in the front seat and that the infant was covered too heavily for the heat.
Poindexter expressed concern for the child.
On the way to the airport, he told Mullins that he was having car trouble and then called police for a welfare check on the child.
When Sgt. Brandon Cassidy talked to Mullins she admitted to the use of heroin.
Mullins was then detained and made to wait while everyone at the scene waited for the Department of Children’s Services to arrive.
While they waited, Mullins was asked if she had any baby formula for the child to which she replied that the infant should have Pedialyte instead.
When Poindexter was interviewed as to why he was concerned for the infant, he told police that Mullins planned to fly with her child after buying Methamphetamine.
Mullins was charged with intoxication and the child was taken by the Department of Children services and placed in a temporary residence.
