Haiden Fultz, the 16-year-old McDonald’s employee who made national news back in June when he paid for a man’s meal while on the clock, received an act of kindness of his own on Thursday.
The staff of the McDonalds where Haiden is employed surprised him on Thursday with a ceremony celebrating his kindness and presented him with gifts.
The lobby was festively decorated with red and gold balloons and table decorations and Haiden, who loves to fish, was presented with a tackle box stuffed full of his favorite things.
All of this was put together for the celebration by Marketing Director Terry Worly.
A large red and gold cake dedicated to Haiden was proudly displayed in the middle of the room and was eventually cut and served to guests. The cake was provided by Supervisor Tracy Reagan.
Back in June, Haiden was working his shift when Jason Mosier came through his line and began experiencing issues with his debit card. Haiden, sensing Mosier was frustrated and having a bad day, immediately pulled out his own debit card and paid for Mosier’s meal, even including an encouraging note on the back of the receipt inside the bag.
Mosier was so moved by this random act of kindness that he went back into the restaurant and took a selfie with Haiden. Mosier then shared the story on social media. Immediately Mosier and Haiden’s story went viral reaching thousands within minutes and would eventually be covered by every major news outlet.
The celebration on Thursday was attended by members of the staff as well as Haiden’s family as well as Mosier.
General Manager Janice Latchford said it felt good to know that the younger members of her team have been retaining all of the things she has told them over the years during their training.
“It feels good knowing that these kids are actually listening when you talk to them. I’ve been working with these kids for years, to see them do something this good it’s like, oh my god they do listen to me! He’s a great asset and he’s a good kid,” Latchford said.
Haiden’s parents and little brother were also in attendance and Haiden’s mother, Amanda Fultz beamed with pride seeing her son being celebrated for his kindness.
“It makes us really proud of him. Lots of times you hear bad things, so it’s good to hear good things,” Fultz said.
Haiden stood, cake in hand, beside a table full of gifts complete with cards and cash that individuals had also given him, just taking it all in.
“I’m still surprised and just in shock, but it makes me happy,” Haiden said.
Mosier stood in the background, allowing Haiden to have his moment but obviously very proud to witness the occasion and see his young friend’s kindness not only be acknowledged, but celebrated as well.
“I hope this Inspires other people to keep doing kind things, I hope people see this and know it’s cool to be kind,” Mosier said.
