Smoky Mountain K9 Sports to host dog sporting event

Smoky Mountain K9 Sports will host a dog sporting event from July 22 at 9 a.m. to July 23 at 5 p.m. at their facility in Morristown.

Admission to the event is free, aside from entry for the dock diving competition. All proceeds from the entry will go to facility maintenance or fundraising events that Smoky Mountain K9 frequently holds.

The main focus of the event is for the dogs’ enjoyment of course, where attendance will allow for them to make new fur friends and engage in various outdoor activities such as agility courses, Frisbee games or dock diving. The main highlight of the event is the dock diving where dogs may enter in a competition to see who can jump the highest and furthest into the pool for $15. Pets who compete and hold the top statistics will be eligible to head onto Smoky Mountain K9’s Nationals event which is held in Morristown but broadcasted across the nation. Any and every dog is encouraged to enter.

Smoky Mountain K9 hopes that in offering this priceless event, community members will see the benefits of having an open K9 sport facility, or playground, for pups to frolic and play to their hearts’ content.

Kim Dunn, founder and owner of the organization shared that she once had a canine companion who had more energy than she could keep up with. His name was Edgar, and it is because of him that the sports club exists today.

“It is really a priority of ours to give any revenue we make back to the community,” Dunn said.

In the past, they have donated proceeds from events to the Charter Senior Living which is a memory care facility.

Dunn and the rest of the staff who work at the organization are extremely proud and passionate about their work. “We like to think that a tired dog is a happy dog,” Dunn said.
