Summer Time ~ Weekend events to celebrate summer as end of break nears
B
As end of July approaches and Lakeway Area students face returning to school, several events are in place to help summer break end with a bang.
The fun begins Friday morning at the Morristown-Hamblen Library as it welcomes local author Amy Curry for a book signing and meet and greet from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
All current titles will be available for purchase, as well as some merchandise. Curry encourages those who purchased a book online to bring it to receive a signature.
Following the event, Curry will answer questions and give an update on her upcoming release.
Friday afternoon Fred Miller Park will welcome kids to enjoy the Wet N Wild Water Day presented by the Morristown Parks and Recreation Department.
The event will have two different time slots, the first from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and the second from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
This gives kids a chance to escape the heat as they plunge down the 100 foot water slides, enjoy the inflatable water slides or run through the sprinkler splash.
As the sun begins to set on the water day, parks and rec will host its Starlite Cinema as it presents ‘The Bad Guys.”
The movie tells the story of notorious criminals Mr. Wolf, Mr. Snake, Mr. Piranha, Mr. Shark and Ms. Tarantula who are finally caught in a crime. To avoid a prison sentence the animal outlaws must pull off their most challenging con yet, becoming model citizens.
Both events are free and will have concessions on sale for attendees to enjoy.
Saturday morning, Lowe’s Home Improvement on West Andrew Highway will host its Kids’ DIY-U Workshop from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
This session, kids will build a grill toy that doubles as a tic-tac-toe board.
The Morristown Farmers Market will have a busy day as two different themed markets will be held on location throughout the day.
Starting at 11 a.m. and going to 5 p.m. the Summer Market will be held featuring food trucks, craft vendors and bouncy houses for kids.
Following the market will be the Red, White and Blue market from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The free event will have 30 local vendors, live music, and food trucks for the community to enjoy.
