Jefferson County’s Revord awarded Lakeway Area Baseball Offensive Player of the Year

Whenever the Jefferson County Patriots needed him this year, Beau Revord answered the call.

He was prolific at the plate this season, coming through for the Patriots in big spots time and time again.

On top of the individual accolades he’s already accrued this season, Revord is now the Citizen Tribune’s Lakeway Area Baseball Offensive Player of the Year.

“This season was very successful for our team and was one of the best ones I’ve been apart of,” Revord said. “Early in the season I wasn’t doing too well pitching, so I had to make another part of my game strong to find a way to help my team.”

Revord deals fastballs in the low to mid-nineties on the mound, but the plate is where he really made his presence felt this season. His batting numbers jump off the page, with 37 runs on 40 hits and 25 walks, a .436 batting average, .574 OBP and a slugging percentage of .840

Entering this season, Revord had more eyes on him than in years past. He committed to play at University of Tennessee last season, and a decision like that brings pressure with it.

“Going into the season I knew after committing to play college baseball at a school pressure from other people and teams,” Revord said. “Getting stronger during the offseason was the biggest factor in the success of the season.”

That work in the offseason was evident to opposing teams. Most at bats, teams looked to pitch around him, which provided a new challenge for Revord. Nothing he couldn’t handle though.

“Each at bat was always different; there were teams that only threw off-speed and others that only threw fastballs,” Revord said. “Making the pitcher uncomfortable was the plan for most at bats to force a fastball for a hit or a ball for a walk.”

It seemed as though Revord always came up to the plate with runners on this season. He credits his teammates for fulfilling their respective roles and allowing him to thrive in big spots.

“The team this year was great,” said Revord. “Everyone really knew their role in the games and did a great job at getting extra base hits for scoring opportunities.”

Revord and Jefferson County hit their stride when it mattered most this season. Following an up and down regular season, they made it to the District Championship before falling to Sevier County, making them 0-5 against the Smoky Bears on the season.

Despite the loss, finishing second in the tournament clinched them a spot in the Region Tournament. After falling to Science Hill in their first game at regionals, they beat Daniel Boone in their second matchup to set up yet another duel with Sevier County. This time to decide a berth to State Sectionals.

The Patriots finally settled the score, defeating the Smoky Bears 8-2 to advance.

”Playing Sevier County as much as we do in a season and not winning a single game in the regular season was rough,” said Revord. “Making it to the sub-state games was a huge milestone for our team and felt good getting a win against a team you haven’t been able to beat all year.”

Surprisingly, that win wasn’t the sweetest of the year for him.

“My favorite game of the year was knocking West out of the district tournament at Sevier County,” Revord said. “The energy from both teams that were out there as well as the other teams from the tournament made the game way more fun and exciting.”

Going into his senior season, Revord plans to step into more of a leadership role on the team, and looks to build on what he and Jefferson County started this year.

“I’m going to stay in the weight room again during the offseason and try to bring the team together more than ever,” he said. “And hopefully have another successful season.”
