UETHDA can help low-income families pay water bills through a Low-Income Household Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP) funded by COVID grant funds. If the household qualifies, the program will apply a credit of $250 on their water utility account as long as they owe at least $10. Funding is also available for those who owe more.
The qualifying income guidelines range from $26,469 annually for a single-person household to a household of four earning as much as $50,902. Proof of income and other information is required.
Residents wanting to turn in an application or find out if they qualify for assistance should visit their Neighborhood Service Center or call the agency at 423-246-6180.
This program is not available in all areas and expires on September 30.
UETHDA serves eight counties in northeast Tennessee: Carter, Greene, Hawkins, Hancock, Johnson, Sullivan, Washington and Unicoi.
UETHDA has a variety of programs from emergency assistance to more long terms paths for self-sufficiency, including national programs such as Head Start, Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, Weatherization Assistance Program and more.
