Make it Mobile: Mobility Plus provides freedom of movement

Mobility Plus in Morristown continues to provide the Lakeway Area with vehicles to help those with disabilities get around their homes.

Since 2007, Mobility Plus has provided mobility equipment to aging Americans with disabilities, and our disabled veterans.

It is a national franchise that is now the largest producer of recliner chairs and mobility scooters in Tennessee.

It also provides power chairs, stairlifts, walk-in baths and more so that loved ones might have the opportunity to comfortably move around at home.

The local facilities, located at 208 Montvue Ave and a second location at 1935 West Morris Boulevard, are owned by Jay and LeElyn Linx.

John McClellan, chamber chair, discussed the importance of having a facility that offers products that help with mobility.

“Mobility is such an important part of life,” he said. “It will impact someone here at some point in their life whether that is as a caregiver or if they need assistance themselves.”

“We take mobility for granted sometimes and it is important that we have places like this that help with mobility and build confidence in those who struggle with it.”

Jay Linx explained what inspired him to open his first facility and the importance of providing products to those in need.

“Our main mission stemmed from an injury I had and all of this mobility stuff that is out there I didn’t know existed,” he said, “When people need stuff like this we are so thankful that we are able to give them what they need.”

“When a person lives in their house and they can’t get from the couch to the bathroom it is so important that we are able to get them what they need to do so.”

He then mentioned how his business stands out by offering maintenance servicing and repairs.

“We sell almost everything at a discount and we get a lot of people who come in and say “oh well I’m just going to find that online for cheaper” but the internet is not our competition we can usually match or beat internet prices.”

“Also if you have a problem with your product we are able to fix it whereas you won’t be able to if you buy from the internet. That’s our biggest thing is service, we have three technicians that can fix almost any issue you have.”

The Morristown facility can service mobility scooters, manual wheelchairs, power wheelchairs, scooter/chair lifts for autos, ramps, vertical platform lifts, stair lifts, power lift recliners and much more.

Its technicians can visit homes or offices to perform an on-site evaluation, and in many cases perform basic maintenance services, or customers are welcome to bring their mobility product to our store to get immediate help.

LeElyn Linx discussed the beginning of their journey and how facing a pandemic shifted their business model.

“This has been such a long journey for us,” she said. “We started in November of 2019 and no one knew what was coming and then four months after that the pandemic hit and so we have been out of the box thinkers when it comes to running our business.”

“It doesn’t matter where you live but it’s how you treat you people, doing the right thing and getting people products they need and that they can afford.”

Mobility Plus is located 208 Montvue Avenue in Morristown and is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
