Ruby Jewell Winstead Greene, 89, of Washburn, TN, passed away on June 19, 2023.

A native of Hancock County, Tennessee, Ruby was born July 31, 1933, to Quincy Mitchell “Mitch” Winstead and Byrtle “T” (Wolfe) Winstead. Ruby had a very happy childhood growing up on her family’s farm with her brothers & sister.

She graduated in 1954 from Hancock High School, where her class superlative was “Most Beautiful”. After graduation, she moved to Morristown, TN, for a time while working at the Parks Belk Department Store. In 1960, Ruby married Rev. Ernest H. Greene, thereafter she was a pastor’s wife for nearly 60 years. She was a member of Locust Grove Baptist Church, but spent many years serving the churches in this area with her husband.

Ruby spent her last years as a devoted grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Quincy Mitchell Winstead & Byrtle T. Wolfe Winstead; beloved brothers, Ralph Winstead, Bruce Winstead, & Kermit Winstead; beloved sister, Shirley Winstead; infant daughter, Robin Renee Greene; husband, Ernest Greene.

She is survived by two daughters, Rhonda Clapp of Plainview and Jennifer (husband Jeff) Amyx of Washburn. Three grandchildren: Rachel Middleton (husband Jake) of Washburn; Stone Amyx and Starlet Amyx of Washburn. Her nieces: Kathy Rutledge, Debbie Dixon, and Cynthia Campbell; as well as great-nephews and great-nieces, all of whom she was very proud of.

Services are entrusted to Smith-Reagan Funeral Home of Rutledge. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 pm on Thursday, June 22nd with service to follow, Rev. Randy Morgan and Rev. Gary Satterfield officiating.

Graveside services will be at Doyle Wayne Needham Cemetery in Powder Springs, TN, on June 23, 2023 at 11:00 am.

Pallbearers: Nathan Dixon, Nick Dixon, Nolan Campbell, Jeff Amyx, Stone Amyx, and Jake Middleton.
