Weekend events planned in Morristown

The Lakeway Area has several fun events planned for this weekend.

Downtown Morristown will host its Farmers Market Celebration on Saturday, June 17 to kick off the market season.

The event will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 2 p.m. There will be something for all ages including face painting, food trucks, vendors and other activities.

Back Hollar Farm, a family owned and operated business that provides handmade products and local produce, will be one of the many vendors set up at the celebration.

The Back Hollar is known for its sourdough, zucchini, banana and specialty bread.

Later that afternoon, the Farmers Market will have a Summer Market from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

There will be more than 25 local small vendors set up for attendees to shop their products and a variety of goods.

Several local food trucks will be present selling food and drinks including Kneadin’ Donuts, selling freshly made donuts.

Mollie Rose Designs, a clothing company located in Bean Station, will be present selling their catalog of shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, tumblers, cups, keychains and much more.

Pat Taylor Dukes, president of the Mossy Creek Cruzers Car Club in Jefferson County, will be selling her hand painted art pieces.

Handmade wooden flower arrangements, summer door hangers and wreaths will be sold by Misty Coffey and Kathy Santos.

Comic Cravings, a freeze dried candy store based in Morristown, will be selling its assortment of Skittles, Marshmallows and Fruity Pebbles.

Beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, Smoky Mountain K9 Sports will host its Super Retriever Series June Fun Jump.

The event located at 987 Central Church Road, Morristown encourages dogs and their owners to come out and participate in this challenge.

“Last weekend we had over 30 dogs from all over the East Coast come out to enjoy that event,” Kim Dunn, Owner of Smoky Mountain K9 Sports, said. “We encourage families and their dogs to come out and enjoy the event even if they don’t plan to compete.”

This dock diving competition will have several different waves depending on skill and size.

The top 3 of each category will be invited to the SRS Crown Championship in Shreveport, LA later this year.

Smoky Mountain K9 Sports was founded in the spring of 2018 after wanting an outlet for dogs in the area to benefit from, such as organized canine sports.

As dock diving is the sport in which Dunn is the most familiar with, that was the first to be added to their long list of sports offered.

“Our mission is to strengthen the bond between owners and their dogs and this challenge is a great way to do that,” Dunn said.
