HABIT Dogs to visit the MH Library
On a day not too far in the future, ‘doggos’ will take over the Morristown-Hamblen Library.
A variety of canine breeds have long been known as therapeutic to humans, and specially trained four-legged fluffs will be visiting the Community Room at the library on June 15.
The program, “How Dogs Work With Us” will be presented at 10:30 a.m. by HABIT: Human-Animal bond in Tennessee.
The organization fosters programs that offer pet visitation to certain facilities such as nursing homes, hospital settings and mental health facilities. The June 15 program will focus on showing attendees how dogs work with humans in everday life.
The program is for children of all ages.
New Elks Riders Chapter recruiting members
The Morristown Elks Lodge #1667 is currently signing up members to form a chapter of the Elks Riders.
According to Chapter Vice President Aaron Brown, the new chapter will be only the second of its kind in Tennessee.
“The Morristown Elks Lodge is the oldest one to ever get a chapter of the Elks Riders,” Brown said. “Those who sign up before June 20 will be a ‘founding member’ of this chapter of the Elks Riders. To be an Elks Rider, you must join the Elks Lodge.”
The Elks Riders will participate in a number of community fundraising events.
“Our primary focus will be to help fund and support the Isaiah 117 house in Morristown as well as The Serenity House. We will also help and support other charities and fundraisers as the need arises,” Brown said.
Although it will be best to own and ride a motorcycle with the Chapter, you do not need to in order to be a member.
“Anyone can join!” Brown said. We are not a club. We are a group, a fraternity. While we are all Elks, our group will operate and govern ourselves independently, but within the Elks. We will be one of many chapters of the National Elks Riders Association.”
