The Butch Grooms Memorial Cruise-In was successful for another year.
With 49 entries, awards given out to the top 15 and several vendors and food trucks, the event was seen as another success.
“It went amazing, we had a great time.” said Lisa Grooms, widow of the late Butch Grooms and Board Member of Stepping Out Inc. “The weather was perfect and the turnout was perfect. Overall it just was another great year.’
Grooms started the event in 2018 in memory of her late husband.
“I started it in 2018 as a way to honor Butch Grooms,” she said. “Butch was always into cars, he restored a 1964 Chevy Impala he named Junebug.”
“After he passed away I wanted to do this in memory of him, as a way to keep those memories of him alive.”
The event was hosted Saturday morning on Walters State Community College’s Morristown Campus. The location was perfect for the growing cruise-in.
“The location was so perfect and we want to thank Walters State for sponsoring the event and for allowing us to have it there,” Grooms said.
As Grooms reflected on the event, she expressed her gratitude for the community’s support and kindness.
“The community is just amazing and I appreciate their support,” she said, “I want to thank everyone for supporting this event in memory of Butch but also for supporting Stepping Out, in which the money will go to.
“I want to thank everyone for coming out and thanks for learning about Stepping Out and willing to help.”
Grooms also wants to give thanks to the several sponsors of the event, The Morristown Lions Club, Budget Auto Clinic, First Horizon Bank, Quality Waste, Workout Anytime and Acme Printing.
As Grooms reflected on the event she also looks forward to next year.
“We will most definitely be back next year,” she said. “We have been doing this since 2018 so we will be back next year and hopefully bigger and better.”
