Tribune to partner with USPS change to morning schedule

Change is coming to your community newspaper.

The Citizen Tribune is partnering with the United States Postal Service to streamline its delivery methods.

What does that mean?

In the long term it means that moving forward the Tribune will be delivered primarily through the U.S. mail. This new partnership will strengthen the overall distribution of the newspaper across the entire Lakeway Area.

It also means the Tribune will transition from being an afternoon paper to being a morning paper with July 5th being the Tribune’s first day in the mail.

“We’re excited to be making this move,” said Tribune Editor/Publisher R. Michael Fishman. “We were born in 1966 as an afternoon newspaper for a myriad of reasons among them was to bring news, entertainment and information to the Lakeway Region.

“As we approach our 60th anniversary of serving the entire area, many things have changed both locally and across the industry. We are changing with the times. It is rare to find afternoon newspapers anymore. We are among the last afternoon papers in the country. Many of our peers have already made this change with positive results for the newspaper and the community.”

Not all the changes will be immediately noticeable.

For some readers there will be changes in delivery schedule during the transition. For others, delivery will remain largely unchanged – at least for the next 30 days.

“We value our carriers – both current and former – as a part of the long-standing tradition of this newspaper in providing the people of this region with a local, community newspaper. We appreciate their service to you in that effort,” Fishman said. “This change is a necessary step in the evolution of a community newspaper.

“We will still be printing five days a week and you’ll receive your daily paper.”

Once the transition is complete, the Tribune will be a morning paper, available in the Tribune’s partner stores throughout the area for readers who want the latest regional news with their morning coffee.

The biggest area in which the change will be noticeable to all readers is in the Tribune’s weekend package.

For decades, the Tribune has been dark on Saturdays and published only a Sunday paper. Now, the Tribune will debut its new Weekender package which will hit the streets Saturday and serve as both the Saturday and Sunday newspaper.

“We’re excited about this move. We appreciate all our loyal subscribers. We will continue our efforts to make each weekend edition the best it can be,” Fishman said, “carrying on the tradition the Tribune has provided each Sunday over the last 60 years.”

Fishman explained that in addition to the Weekend Edition, the Tribune will continue to provide breaking news with its website, www.citizentribune.com, and app, saying the Tribune is better positioned than ever before to provide informaiton on a 24-hour news cycle.

“The times have changed and we are changing with the times,” he said. “With our web offerings, the Tribune has more readership than at any other time in its history. The web has brought us to reach beyond the boundaries of the Lakeway Area, across the state, across the country and across the world.

“I believe in the printed newspaper and I believe with all my heart the Tribune will provide its readers with a printed newspaper for generations to come. Our new delivery system is a commitment to that. It is our mission to provide local, community journalism to all residents of this region.

“Whether you recieve your paper in the mail, a local market, on a desktop at work or home, or on your mobile device, you can access the community news, sports and more from the Lakeway Area wherever and however you wish to access it.”
