James Allen Hammer

James Allen Hammer, age 80, of Jefferson City, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 7, 2023 at Lifecare in Jefferson City with his daughters, Laura and Amanda, by his side.

Allen was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy where he was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal for heroism while serving on board the USS Lexington. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #113 in Jefferson City for 56 years.

Allen was preceded in death by his parents, James B. and Drama Hammer of Bean Station, brother Dallas Hammer of New Market, brother-in-law Bill Lamb of Talbott and Lillie Hammer of Florida.

He is survived by children, Laura (Casey) Dockery of Dandridge, Tracy Hammer of Jefferson City, Amanda (Sean) Barnes of Virginia Beach, VA, their mother Mary Hammer of Jefferson City and Samantha Blackburn of Florida.

Allen will be missed by his brother, Melvin (Kathryn) Hammer of Hermitage, sister Judy Lamb of Talbott, brother Mike Hammer of Bean Station, sister Pam (James) Brantley of Bean Station and sister-in-law Judy Hammer of New Market.

He leaves 16 grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren.

The family would like to offer a heartfelt THANK YOU to the Unit 2 Nursing Staff and Therapist at Lifecare in Jefferson City for their care, patience, kindness, and love to our loved one for the last several months.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Mitchell Springs Baptist Church in Rutledge for Cemetery upkeep.

Inurnment 12:30 pm Monday, June 5, 2023 at East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery. Fielden Funeral Home is honored to serve the Hammer family.
