MATS to bring back Family Fun Day

MATS will return with its third annual Family Fun Day event on June 24, to a new location.
The fun day will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Downtown Morristown’s Farmers Market.
The event aimed to entertain the whole family will have food trucks, craft vendors, inflatables, face painting and many different activities for all ages.
Tonya Polidoro, MATS director, is excited for the return of the event and encourages those of all ages to attend.
“We’re excited to bring it back because it offers something for everyone; children and adults alike,” she said. “Even for the elderly who like to get and don’t have interest in the games or activities but they can browse the different vendors and food trucks.”
“We really wanted to give people a chance to have a good time while also supporting MATS and our mission of helping those experiencing homelessness.”
Polidoro then explained how the event came to be when the community needed it most.
“We put on a lot of different events,” she said. “Family fun day was born with the idea that we wanted something for the whole family.”
“We felt like it came at the perfect time coming out of a pandemic and there was a need to return to normalcy and give people the fun they missed in 2020.”
Although the shelter is excited to bring fun to the community, it is still looking for volunteers to help with the event.
Volunteers are needed to assist with games, and activities as well as help with set up and break down.
“Family Fun Day is something everyone should be a part of,” Polidoro said. “You’re helping your community but you’re having fun while doing it.”
There are also still opportunities for vendors to participate in the event to get their name out there and also support MATS.
“It’s a great way for vendors to show off their merchandise and connect with the community,” she said.
Vendor registration and all fees are due to MATS by June 5.
All proceeds from Family Fun Day will go to support MATS and cover operating costs. However, the shelter itself is still in need of the community’s support.
“We are desperately in need of papers and toilet paper, “ Polidoro said. “We are also needing to restock our food pantry and with that we need canned peas, green beans, whole kernel corn, greens, carrots and some hamburger helper.”
Polidoro thanked the community for its support through the years and hopes it will continue to support the shelter.
“We couldn’t do what we do without the community’s support and we want to thank everyone for its continued support in our organization and our mission.”
