Morristown-Hamblen Library carnival fundraiser a success

The Morristown-Hamblen Library had a successful carnival fundraiser for the remodeling of the George S. Hale Community Room.

The library had more than 15 carnival games set up inside the building last Saturday, with each game costing 50 cents.

The funding will directly cover costs regarding the updating and remolding of the heavily used community on the bottom floor of the library.

The community room is used for various activities including meetings, receptions, birthday parties, baby showers, and so much more.

Rita Wood, circulation specialist, and Shelly Shropshire, library director, thanked the community for its supporting the fundraiser.

“We are just so thankful that we had the community come out and support our fundraiser,” Wood said, “It really means a lot that the community sees the good we do and they are willing to help us.”

“We had such a great crowd all day and it just warms our heart to see all the support we’ve received today.”

Shropshire agreed with Wood’s appreciation for the community’s support.

“We love being a part of this community and offering services to them and its makes us feel like we’re doing a good job when they come out and support us like this,” Shropshire said.

The library wasn’t the only that benefited from the carnival; Shropshire told a story about how a mother thanked her for having this carnival.

“A single mother came up to us and thanked us for having the carnival because it was the only thing she could afford to take her children to,” Shropshire said. “That really makes us feel like we’re doing our job by helping the community.”

More fundraiser are on the way, but Shropshire encourages the community to support the library in other ways.

“We will have more fundraisers in the future to help raise money for the community room and everyone is welcome to donate money specifically for the project just make sure all checks specifically say it is to help with the remolding,” she said.

“There are other ways to support the library. You can do so by getting a library card and using our different services, by supporting us with our book sales, and also attending the different events we host.”
