The Cocke County Partnership’s Chamber of Commerce will again host “Rhythm on the River,” a series of concerts this summer along the beautiful City of Newport’s Riverwalk.

This year they will be hosting a total of five concerts.

Kicking off the series June 1 is Marques Puckett and 8 Second Ride- MP8SR An American Country/Southern Rock band. Their high energy stage shows and fan friendly approach has created a fan base that keeps coming back for more night after night.

Next gracing the stage on June 15 is fan favorite Jigsaw Jane. They play everything from classic/southern/alternative rock to driving/old school/new age country music as well as original music.

And helping us kick off the holiday weekend on June 29, is fan favorite Grits from Dumplin Valley. They play everything southern and classic rock, classic country, and blues.

On July 13 check out Outlaw Whiskey, a new addition to the ROR lineup. They are out of Haywood County, NC, playing a mix of country, southern rock, classic rock, and originals.

Ending this year’s concert series is new to ROR but local fan favorite Rivertown on July 27.

They are a Bluegrass Band from East TN and Western NC. Artists such as Bill Monroe, Earl Scruggs, Tony Rice and JD Crowe have influenced their sound.

All concerts are free to the public with affordable concessions provided by Newport Walmart.

Concession proceeds will be going to the Children’s Miracle Network.

Organizsers say to come hungry and support the local Walmart as they strive to help improve the lives of kids in our area by giving to CMN.

“We are so glad to be bringing back Rhythm on the River again,” said Chamber of Commerce Director Lynn Ramsey. “We invite folks to bring lawn chairs or blankets. Bring a football or a frisbee to pass with friends while taking in the sounds of summer. The Chamber will also have cornhole and other games for the little ones to enjoy. Please no coolers. We hope it is a relaxing, enjoyable evening.”

Sponsors for the event are Diamond Jefferson Cocke County Gas. Sonoco, Rural Medical Services and Bush Brothers are Titanium sponsors.

“We are so thankful to all of our sponsors,” added Ramsey. “We could not do this without them and a special thanks to the City of Newport for all their help in making this another wonderful summer of music on the Riverwalk.”

The entertainment starts at 7 p.m. They will have food and games set up by 6:30 p.m.
