Jeff County’s Hall to continue track and field career at Carson-Newman

A Patriot of Jefferson County High School and of her country, Elizabeth Hall announced her commitment to Carson Newman University last Friday.
Her prowess as a thrower of the shot put and discus, accompanied by her activity in ROTC, 4.45 GPA and ACT score of 33 earned her a full ride scholarship to the school.
“It’s a great achievement, and nice to continue my future at Carson Newman,” said Hall on the commitment.
The school’s proximity to her family, and specifically her younger sister, was a key component of Hall’s decision to attend CNU.
“My sister and I are five years apart, but we are very close and spend every single day together,” Hall said of her relationship with her sister. “I truly feel like our bond is unique and special because of some of the experiences we’ve had together.”
She joins a current crop of 12 former Jeffco athletes competing across all sports at Carson Newman. Jeffco head track and field coach Bill Delozier was particularly keen on Hall’s decision.
“It’s great two-fold, as an alumnus of Carson Newman I like to see them go there, and it allows us to keep contact with as well,” said Delozier of Hall’s signing with the Eagles. “They know that anytime they need something, we’re still there for them.”
Hall has been a role model for fellow track athletes and students alike in her four years at Jefferson County high school.
“As a thrower, and just as a person, what she brings to us is what we believe in. The culture of our program, and also how we perform,” Delozier said of her leadership.
Hall’s hard work on the track has paid dividends this year, recently placing second in the finals of both discus and shot put in the District 2 Large Schools Championship, with personal record throws in both events.
“She’s continued to improve year after year,” said Delozier, “and now she’s in the mix with a really solid shot to actually go to state in her senior year.”
She isn’t satisfied though.
“I’m eager to take my athletic abilities to the next level. I’ve been going running and lifting a lot,” Hall said when asked how she plans to spend her off-season. “I really want to be physically ready for both ROTC and track.”
Hall’s commitment to ROTC is a point of emphasis for her as she enters the next chapter of her life.
“I decided I wanted to become an officer in the United States Army because I feel a sense of duty to my country and I feel like this is the path God wants me to take,” Hall said of the importance of ROTC to her.
Elizabeth Hall made her family, friends, and community proud on Friday. She’ll continue to do so for the next four years. She starts at Carson Newman in the fall.
