Young singers from across the region are invited to register or audition for the Mountain Empire Children’s Choral Academy’s 2023-2024 season!

Artistic Director, Jane DeLoach Morison says, “We have gotten many inquiries recently, and we want to make sure everyone in the region knows how to involve their children in these wonderful groups. Our singers are so enthusiastic, fun, and kind, and they really love singing together. And now is a great time to join as we plan for a great season of singing in 2023-2024!”

Auditions for membership in the East Tennessee Children’s Choir (ETCC) will be held Monday, May 15, between 4:00 and 5:30 p.m. at Munsey Church, 201 S. Roan Street, Johnson City, TN. Emory Virginia Children’s Choir (EVCC) auditions will be held Thursday, May 18, 4:00-5:30 at the Chapel on the Campus of Emory & Henry College. Children who are in grades 4 and up may audition for either choir.

Singers are auditioned in small groups, and no preparation is necessary. Auditions take about 25 minutes and are conducted on a first come, first served basis.

Children in grades 1-3 are eligible for the Explorers program, Directed by Emily McCraw. Explorers do not have an audition, but are asked to come on the same day between 4:00-5:30 to meet Ms. McCraw and register with a parent.

MECCA choirs have performed at Carnegie Hall, in Greece, Ireland, and Hungary, and have collaborated with the Barter Theatre and many area performing arts organizations. Our singers are regularly selected to participate in national, regional, state, and district honor choirs, and Governor’s Schools for both Tennessee and Virginia, and many have been selected as national soloists.

They sing annual concerts with the Symphony of the Mountains, and provide music for the Biltmore Estate Candlelight Christmas Evenings.

Audition/registration calendar at a glance:

May 15, 4pm – 5:30pm at Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church, East Tennessee Children’s Choir and Johnson City Explorers; May 18, 4pm – 5:30 at Emory & Henry College Chapel, Emory Virginia Children’s Choir and Emory Explorers.
