Morristown Art Association hosts juried art show
The Morristown Art Association has announced it will sponsor the 53rd Annual Juried Art Show in June.
This is the premier visual art event of the year in Morristown with some of the best artists in East Tennessee submitting their work for the show. This cultural, community event is held at Rose Center Council for the Arts, in the Edith Davis Gallery.
The show’s Jurror this year will be Carl Gombert.
Gombert was born in Brimfield, Ohio in 1959. He started taking painting lessons at the age of 14 with money he earned delivering newspapers.
He completed a BFA in drawing at the University of Akron and an MFA in painting at Kent State University.
He worked as a stagehand before earning a Ph.D. in interdisciplinary fine arts at Texas Tech University.
He has shown his work in more than 350 exhibitions across the United States and abroad, and his work is in numerous museum and university collections.
Since 1993 he has taught painting, drawing, and art history at Maryville College in Tennessee.
Artists are invited to deliver entries for the show to the Rose Center, Friday, May 26th from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., and Saturday, May 27th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Over $1000.00 in total cash will be awarded, as well as ribbons. The Best of Show award is $500.00.
Artwork entries should have been completed within the last five years and should not have hung in any previous Morristown Art Association juried show.
All works must be original work of the entering artist. Giclee prints, copies of materials, and published photographs are not considered orginals.
Each artist must submit up to 3 entries. Entry fees for MAA members as of December 31, 2022, is $20 and non-members is $25.
The Art Show and Exhibit will be on display from June 5th through June 29th, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Reception and Awards presentation will be held at the Rose Center, Edith Davis Gallery, on Sunday, June 4th, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
