Celebration Time – GFWC & Soma Sala host annual fundraiser

The General Federation of Women’s Clubs and Soma Sala Circle hosted their much-anticipated annual Celebration of Tables event on Thursday evening.

Each year they choose a cause in the community and donate the funds raised from the event. This year all monies raised from the Celebration of Tables will go towards supplying picnic tables and benches at Fulton Hill Park.

The event was held in the gymnasium at First Presbyterian Church and immediately upon walking through the doors visitors were treated to an impressive array of artful displays.

Each table was an artistic representation of the company or individual who had purchased it.

A whimsical Alice in Wonderland theme represented the Morristown Hamblen Library and animal balloon sculptures peeped above the crowds from the tables purchased by the Hamblen County Humane Society.

There were also garden themes with real vegetables and seed packet favors, a bee keeping theme with actual jars of honey at each place setting for each guest to take home, and much more, making the tables an experience each guest won’t soon forget.

No detail was left undone. Hand sculpted artwork, painted canvases, flower arrangements, and all manner of creative touches were sprinkled throughout the tables.

This, along with the delicious meal catered by Jersey Girl Diner and the beautiful singing from Bethel Baptist Choir, made the evening a feast for the eyes and soul as well as the tastebuds.

Sally Allen, who coordinated the event and was flush with gratitude at the show of support from the community said, “Some of these ladies who are doing this are from the reading circle, Soma Sala people, and people from the community. We just appreciate them so much for being here. We are thrilled that we have this many people participating.”

This year’s Celebration of Tables was their biggest turnout since Covid with 35 of the 36 tables reserved.

Together, the General Federation of Women’s Club and Soma Sala Circle have worked diligently throughout the years and have raised thousands of dollars for various causes within the Morristown community making them an invaluable asset to Hamblen County.
