Lakeway Court Appointed Special Advocates Executive Director Kelley Williams recently spoke to the Samuel Doak Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution members met at the First United Methodist Church’s Cornerstone Building.
According to Williams, there are only 55 counties out of Tennessee’s 95 counties that have CASA available to help judges with decisions for children who have been abused and neglected, some of whom are in the foster care system.
In the past year, Lakeway CASA has served more than 200 children.
Court Appointed Special Advocates are community volunteers who are appointed by Juvenile Court judges to become advocates for abused and neglected children. More advocates are needed in Hamblen County. Lakeway CASA serves Grainger, Hamblen, Jefferson and Sevier counties. Those interested in becoming volunteers, should contact Williams at 865-318-3256.
