On The Hunt~Parks and Recreation hosts Eggsellent Adventure

Children’s laughter could be heard from every corner of Fred Miller Park as vibrant colored eggs were snatched from their hiding places.
The Morristown Parks and Recreation Department held its annual Easter Eggsellent Adventure Tuesday evening.
Twenty vendors were set up along the park’s trail, handing out goodies and gifts for kids to enjoy.
The Easter Bunny made a grand entrance, riding in on Morristown’s First Fire Truck. After his arrival he was spotted along the trail taking pictures with the passing children.
At 6 p.m. the first group of children lined up to prepare for the big event, the Easter Egg Hunt.
As soon as the gate opened, eager kids darted across the fields seeing who could get the most eggs.
Parents watched as their children ran back and forth searching for eggs, a smile planted on their faces.
After that, two more age groups had the chance hunt for eggs.
With over 1,200 in attendance the parks and recreation department sees it as another great success.
“The weather was amazing and the turnout was amazing so we are claiming this as another successful egg hunt,” said Jennifer Gentry, Recreation Program coordinator.
“We’re so thankful for all of the vendors, sponsors and volunteers who made this event possible and successful.”
Many parents discussed how important this event is to the community and why they bring their kids.
“We are so excited to come to this egg hunt every year,” said Sarah Moore. “My kids love to run around and try and get as many eggs as they can stuff in their basket.”
“I think it’s really important for families to bring their kids because this gives kids the chance to play and meet other kids their age. Especially after COVID where they couldn’t play with kids for two years, so I think it’s important they get this chance.”
“I don’t think people understand how much fun this is for kids,” said Alyssa West. “Many of our kids just go to school and go home but these events let the kids have a chance to have some fun and freedom for once.”
“The kids really love meeting all the people in the community. My son loves the police officers that visit his school, that’s all he talks about and when he got a sticker from the Sheriff’s Department he was so excited.”
With the Easter Eggsellent Adventure over, the parks and recreation department is preparing for its new Bluegrass Festival.
The festival which is a partnership between parks and rec. and Downtown Morristown, will be held on the Green at the Farmers Market on May 6.
The festival will have three bands performing live and host of vendors set up selling goodies to the community.
There will also be several antique tractors set up throughout the farmer’s market area for participants to examine.
There are still spots available for craft vendors and antique tractors to be shown at the festival. For more information, call 423-586-0260.
