THP to conduct checkpoints in Lakeway

The Tennessee Highway Patrol will be conducting checkpoints in the next few weeks in the Lakeway Area.

On the week of April 9 to April 15, THP will conduct driver’s license roadside safety checkpoints on State Route 58 in Claiborne County. The same week, the THP will also conduct a sobriety roadside safety checkpoint on State Route 32, also in Claiborne County.

The week of April 16 to April 22, driver’s license roadside safety checkpoints will be conducted on State Routes 32, 61 and Indian Ridge Road in Grainger County.

Recognizing the danger presented to the public by unqualified drivers, troopers will concentrate their efforts on vehicles being operated by drivers who would violate the driver’s license laws of Tennessee.

Impaired driving is a serious crime that kills more than 16,000 people and injures 305,000 others every year in the United States. In the sobriety checkpoints, troopers will target those who operate a vehicle while impaired and take corrective actions for other violations observed while protecting all motorists.

The THP has found these checkpoints to be an effective means of enforcing driver’s license laws of Tennessee while ensuring protection of all motorists. The sobriety checkpoints are highly visible and effective tools in the battle against impaired driving.
