Nancy Elaine (Haun) Carpenter
Morristown – After a long illness, Nancy Elaine (Haun) Carpenter, 78, of Russellville passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Saturday, March 18, 2023.
Elaine was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Doyle L. Carpenter; parents Thomas and Ione Haun; stepmother Doris Haun; sisters Pauline Miller and Mary Officer; and brothers Joseph Thomas (JT) Haun, Thomas (Tom) Haun, Richard Haun, and Eugene (Gene) Wheelock.
She is survived by her son Greg Carpenter (Teresa) of Morganton, North Carolina; son Tim Carpenter (Ginger) of Whitesburg; and grandchildren Peyton Carpenter of Morganton, NC, Carly Freeman (Lucas) of Nashville, TN, and Amethyst Carpenter of Whitesburg; sisters Lois Bergman (Walt) of Cedar Rapids, IA, Judy Morelock (Lynn) of Morristown, and Margaret Wright (Robert) of Mount Juliet, TN; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A loving spouse, mother and grandmother, Mrs. Carpenter was born in Anamosa, Iowa to Thomas and Ione (Koppenhaver) Haun. She graduated Whitesburg High School in 1962, and married Doyle in November 1963.
She began her career at Morristown Manufacturing as a dress maker. She spent a short time as a legal secretary. She later retired from Shelby Williams after more than 40 years of service. During her tenure at Shelby Williams, she served many terms as Recording Secretary of the Shelby Williams local union.
Mrs. Carpenter was a lifelong member of Russellville Baptist Church, and was a Past Worthy Matron of Whitesburg-Hamblen Chapter of Order of the Eastern Star.
Perhaps she was best known for her cakes. For many decades, she enjoyed brightening someone’s day with a beautiful professionally decorated cake for a birthday, wedding, or other special occasion. In her later years, one could find her focused on the Hallmark Chanel. She was a romantic at heart, and could always find the good in most everyone and situation.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm on Thursday, March 23, 2023, at Allen Funeral Home in Morristown, TN. Service will follow, with the Rev. Allen Payne officiating. Interment will be at 2 pm on Friday, March 24, 2023, in Hamblen Memory Gardens & Mausoleum, Morristown, TN.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, Russellville Baptist Church, or the American Lung Association.
