ROGERSVILLE – Alison Byrd struck out 14 batters as the Grainger Lady Grizzlies blanked Cherokee 8-0 Thursday afternoon.

Byrd yielded only two hits and two walks on the day as Grainger improved to 2-1 on the season. The Lady Grizzlies had five doubles in the game led by a duo of two-baggers by Brooklyn Copley. She went 3-for-3 with two RBI and a walk while Macey Spangler also drove in two runs. The game was scoreless until the Lady Grizz finally got things going in the late innings, scoring all eight runs in the final four innings.

Grainger is set to take on Elizabethton Friday afternoon, weather permitting.
