“God is at work”: Carson-Newman students serve mission during Spring Break

“God is at work.”

That was the consensus following Carson-Newman students’ return to campus this week after serving on GenSend mission trips.

Thirty-six students along with members of the C-N community forwent the typical college spring break trip to help those in need.

Teams traveled to Denver, Los Angeles, New Orleans, Washington, D.C. and Barcelona, Spain.

From working with homeless ministries and food pantries, to serving with missionaries and church plants, students had the opportunity to share the gospel and learn through service.

“God is in this city, moving one by one. He is saving people from the chains of homelessness, addiction, human trafficking, (and) loneliness…,” said Jazzy Sartin, a C-N junior who took part in the Los Angeles trip. “I’ve gotten to see some of it first-hand this week, and I am reminded that I am in constant awe of God’s goodness in people’s lives. There are glimpses of God’s goodness everywhere here, and I know he will keep moving.”

The opportunity was made possible through GenSend, a program developed through the Southern Baptist Convention’s North American Mission Board to develop, support and deploy the next generation of everyday missionaries.

“Our mission teams experienced what it is like to live life on mission in a major city both in the states and internationally,” said Jeremiah Young, director of Campus Ministries. “All of our mission teams worked in partnership with local churches and ongoing ministries that participate in Kingdom work, day in and day out. Our prayer is that students would consider how to live as a world-wide servant leader for the kingdom of God wherever then end up after they graduate with a degree from Carson-Newman.”
