Morristown East was well on their way to an opening season win over Grainger on Monday night.

However, they could not finish things off.

Leading 6-2, East gave up nine runs in the sixth inning and could not recover as Grainger took home an 11-6 victory.

The Lady ‘Canes had seven errors in the game, including five in the deciding sixth inning.

Hudson Cloninger and Zoe Shelley led the way with three hits each. Keely Shisler, Ella Wampler and Shelley each drove in runs.

In the circle, Kylie Rader got the start and allowed six runs, but only two earned, on one hit. Rader walked seven and struck out 11.

Wampler replaced Rader in the sixth and allowed just one hit while striking out two. With the errors mounting up, five unearned runs scored with Wampler in the circle.

Things started well for Grainger as two runs crossed the plate in the bottom of the first. The Lady ‘Canes got a run back in the second on a Shelley groundout that scored Rader before tying the game in the fifth on a Wampler groundout that scored Shelley.

In the sixth, East took the lead with four runs as Jaycee Hamilton scored on an error, Shisler hit a sacrifice fly that scored Adasia Davis and an error at first scored Shelley and Cloninger.

However, in the bottom half of the inning, the Lady Grizz scored six runs on errors and three on wild pitches to take the lead. East went 1-2-3 in the seventh.

East will be back in action on Tuesday as they host Daniel Boone. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
