Young and old gathered at Talley Ward recreational center with their favorite hot wheels in tow and hopes of snagging themselves a spot in the winner’s circle in the annual Parks and Recreation Hot Wheels Derby Saturday morning.

Enoch DeOs, who raced his white Baymax and won 3rd place in his category for timed race said it was a fun day at the race track.

“I really hope my white car wins, and I like watching all the little kids race,” he said.

Eager little faces crowded the racing gutter and orange Hot Wheels track to get the best view and squeals of glee could be heard amid the crowds as cars raced across the finish line.

This is the fifth year for the Hot Wheels Derby which is sponsored by Gutters and More and State Farm Zach Coffey.

The derby has four age categories including: 5 and under, 6-12, 13-18 and Ol’ Hot Rods.

Jennifer Gentry, Parks and Recreation Program Director was kept busy registering cars as fast as they came in

“This is the largest turnout we’ve ever had for the ol’ Hot Rods Category and I think they have more fun with this than the younger kids,” she said.

Gentry went on to report that they had a total of 71 registered racers with the largest category being the 6-12 age group and an estimated 150 people in attendance. Results of the race were as follows:

• 5 and under gutter race – 1st Levi Reed, 2nd Braxton Long, 3rd Rhett Allen Cope

• 5 and under timed race – 1st Levi Reed, 2nd Max Anderson, 3rd Braxton Long

• 6-12 gutter 1 1st and 2nd is Spencer Fishburn. 3rd Benjamin Reed

• 6-12 timed 1st Sydney Fishburn, 2nd Spencer Fishburn, and 3rd Enoch DeOs

• 13-18 gutter 1st and 2nd Kade Denton, 3rd Ryder Short

• 13-18 timed – 1st and 2nd Ryder Short, 3rd Memphis Short

• Ol’ Hot Rods- Gutter – 1st Gary Bean, 2nd Brandon Tomassoni, 3rd Gary Bean

• Ol’ Hot Rods timed- 1st and 2nd Lori Short and 3rd Steven Reed ( Benjamin Reed’s dad)

• Overall, Fastest Timed was Sydney Fishburn

• Overall, Gutter Winner is Kade Denton
