Celebrating West High Students of the month
Congratulations to the West High Students of the Month for the month of February for their outstanding excellent deeds and going above and beyond: Haven Simpson, Molly Livesay, Andrew Carmichael, Caleb King.
West High believes that attendance and being present is a crucial part of success in education and learning; congratulations to the following students for perfect attendance for the month of February: Brooklynn Widner and Jayden Evans-Brooks.
This week, Trojan’s Baseball will be playing against Jeff County on Monday, Mar. 13, at Jeff County; on Tuesday, Mar. 14, they will be playing against Jeff at Trojan Park. Friday, Mar. 17, Trojan’s Baseball will be playing against Knox West at Trojan Park. Tennis will be playing at Farragut on Tuesday, Mar. 14, and on Thursday, Mar. 16, they will be playing against Cherokee High. Softball will be playing the tournament against Science Hill on Friday, Mar. 17, and Saturday, Mar. 18. Come and support the Trojan Athletes!
In other sports news, we are very proud to announce that West High will have its very own Dance Team! Try-outs for the Morristown-West Dance Team will be Apr. 17 through Apr. 21. Anyone interested should join the Google Classroom with code: d553qrp. If you are interested in joining the cheerleading team, try-outs will be Apr. 3; all required materials are due on the google classroom (code: yd4m36b) by Monday, Mar. 20, and any questions should be emailed to Ms. Leslie Jones: JonesL@hcboe.net.
This upcoming Tuesday, Mar. 13, Dollywood representatives will be in the cafeteria during all lunches and afterschool to do “on the spot” interviews to hire for Dollywood and Splash Country! Anyone interested can contact Coach Noble for more information.
Seniors, next Wednesday, Mar. 22, Jostens will be in the cafeteria during all lunches to distribute graduation supplies for Seniors who have ordered them; please make sure you pick up your order. In addition, Senior Beta Club members will be able to purchase their graduation cords through Mrs. Owens. The only approved cord will be the black and gold color combination which is $15. Please make checks payable to “West High Beta Club”. To ensure that everyone will receive their cords in time for graduation, please pay the total amount by Apr. 4, 2023. There will be no exceptions after the deadline. Beta Club’s next meeting will be Tuesday, Mar. 14.
Cap and Gown photos for Seniors will be taken on Tuesday, Apr. 11, in the auditorium from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. If you intend on taking the Cap and Gown portraits, please fill out the Google form in your Google Classroom. If you have paid the sitting fee for the Senior portraits in the Fall, you will not need to pay a sitting fee for the Cap and Gown photos.
Student Council will host auditions for the “Trojans’ Got Talent” talent show on Thursday, Apr. 6, 2023, after school. We would love to have a variety of talents: singers, bands, musicians, magicians, dancers, comedians, etc. All are welcome to audition! The talent show will take place in the auditorium on Friday, Apr. 21, 2023, during third period. Cash prizes will be awarded. A google form will be posted to sign up for auditions in the following week.
For upcoming scholarships: The Yamaoka Tuff-Torq Scholarship is a scholarship that is awarded to recognize students for their achievement in the areas of math and science. Priority will be given to the students who are the children/legal dependents of Tuff-Torq employees. Applications are available in the counseling office; the deadline is Mar. 29, 2023.
The ETR Automotive Tech Scholarship is for Seniors who are obtaining a degree or certification in automotive technology and/or restoration; students who show an active interest in the hobby of antique vehicles may apply. Applications are available in the Counseling Office Google Classroom along with more information. The deadline is Mar. 31, 2023.
The “Life. Made Better.” Scholarship: Students must be involved in at least two extracurricular activities and have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA. Letters of recommendation and essays will be required. The deadline for the scholarship will be Mar. 31, 2023.
In honor of Mr. Brian Marcum, there will be a scholarship available for Seniors who are planning to major in education; applications are available in the counseling office and the deadline will be Apr. 21, 2023.
Remember, Tuesday, Mar. 21, all Juniors will be taking their ACT. The ACT is a graduation requirement for all students in the state of TN who graduate with a diploma. Freshmen and Sophomores will take the practice ACT while seniors will complete community service hours. After testing, students and staff will join in breakout games of fun activities for the afternoon.
