James Carl “Billy” Murphy, age 87 of Morristown, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on Saturday, March 4, 2023. He was a member of Calvue Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Helen Lucille Murphy; son, Billy Jay (Amy) Murphy; daughters Carla (Eddie) Jennings & Kelly (Gene) Brooks; grandchildren, Wes (Amanda) Champ, Brianna, Avyanna, Jayden, Jessie, & Hayden Brooks, Ashley & Joey Mabry; great-grandchildren, Alek (Alicia) Champ & Brock Champ; great-great-grandson, Liam Champ.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Tillman “Jay” Murphy & Eula Gladys Stepp Murphy; sister, Pearl Aileen Murphy.

He graduated from Morristown High School in 1954. He then served in the United States Air Force as Staff Sergeant; and was employed at Berkline Corporation for 42 years. He leaves behind his best friends / beloved pups, Murphy & Shadow.

The family will receive friends from 5pm to 7pm Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at Mayes Mortuary. A funeral service will follow at 7pm with Pastor Roy Dalton officiating. Burial with Military Honors will take place at 11a, Thursday, March 9, 2023 at Hamblen Memory Gardens.
