Tennova Primary Care Morristown East held its ribbon cutting ceremony with the Morristown Chamber of Commerce.
Heather Shultz – Nurse Practitioner – is the main provider at the new facility at Millers Landing where she is committed to helping families stay healthy.
She specializes in caring for women, men and children ages 2 and older by offering family medicine services, including prevention and management of chronic conditions such as diabetes, asthma and heart disease.
She also provides well checks, immunizations, sick visits, and routine women’s health screenings.
Shultz has been providing care for more than 20 years, but she credits her mom as to why she first got into healthcare.
“Me and my mom hashed out what my future plans would be after high school and she thought I would be great a nurse and I ran with it and then fell in love with the work,” Shultz said.
After graduating high school Shultz received her Associates Degree from Lincoln Memorial University, Bachelors and Master’s Degree from East Tennessee State University.
“I am a Hancock County native and I have been providing care in the area since 2003. I have been a nurse for 23 years, a nurse practitioner for 16 of those years and have been with Tennova for 14 of those 16 years,” Shultz said.
She thanked Tennova for allowing her to open this new clinic.
“Tennova is a great company to work for and I am so thankful to them for trusting me to open this new clinic and I am so happy to be here providing care to people.”
Shultz described the facility’s growth since opening and said that the company is looking to add a provider.
“We have already been so busy since we opened the doors. This facility has already jumped great hoops and bounds since the beginning. We didn’t anticipate so many of my previous patients following me to this new facility as well as patients on the east end coming to the clinic due to it being close to home. Therefore, we are hoping to add another provider soon to expand our services to the area even further.”
Shultz highlighted a few services she will provide for patients at the new facility.
“We do newborn and adult physicals, we participate in vaccines for children so patients don’t have to go to the health department to get a vaccine for your kids, we do minor surgical things, and sports physicals” Shultz said.
Ben Ridder, Chief Executive officer at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, discussed his excitement for the new facility.
“We’re very excited to open this new facility,” Ridder said. “Heather has been with us for a long time and does a phenomenal job with patient care and she is the one who runs the show around here.
“We are excited to open this facility to the east end of Morristown to add to the facility we have on the west end. Our office in Jefferson City has continued to serve more and more folks in Morristown and we want to say that you are a part of our family.”
Ridder explained the reasoning to open the facility in the specific location.
“What we wanted to do when we looked at the geographic map of health care in Morristown there is some services on the west end, the center of town but there wasn’t really on this side so were trying to make care more convenient for the citizens of the area,” Ridder said.
“We have already been working to make more convenient by opening our new surgery center in Talbott and that’s a bit of a theme that goes outside our four walls of our hospital. This is an extension of our health care system and not just our hospital.”
