Ready for some March Madness
In March Madness news, most of our spring sports will be beginning or continuing next week. We also have many scholarships available with deadlines at the end of this month. The last day of the nine weeks will be Thursday, Mar. 9, 2023.
Tuesday, Mar. 21, will be Junior ACT day. All Juniors will be taking the ACT on this day. Underclassmen will be taking a practice ACT; Seniors will be completing community service hours for TN Promise. After testing, students will divide into breakout groups with activities they have previously signed up for.
Seniors, if you ordered graduation supplies, Josten’s will be here to deliver them on Wednesday, Mar. 22. They will be in the cafeteria during the third period to distribute them; students can stop by their table during their lunch. Cap and Gown portraits for Seniors will be taken Tuesday, Apr. 11, in the auditorium from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.. Seniors who intend on having their Cap and Gown pictures taken will need to sign up and schedule an appoint in their Google Classroom; no sitting fee is required if students already paid the sitting fee for Senior portraits.
Cinderella’s Closet is open, by appointment only. If you need formal wear, dresses, shoes, makeup free of charge, call 865-287-5118 to schedule an appointment. This year, Prom will be Saturday, Apr. 29. If you decide to bring a guest, there are important steps and guidelines in place due to safety concerns. A form must be filled out prior with their information and an interview may be conducted. Forms are available in the library from Ms. Long. Code Force Coding Club and Robotics Club will meet Monday, 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.; snacks will be provided. Beta Club’s next meeting will be Tuesday, Mar. 14.
West High’s WestSideStory Newspaper and Yearbook would like to invite anyone who is interested to join and be a part of the Newspaper or Yearbook staff here at West! Students who are interested in joining WestSideStory.net Newspaper to write fun, interesting articles, improve photography skills, and learn more about business should contact Mrs. Amy Whaley with any questions; students who are interested in joining West High’s Yearbook staff to create a yearbook full of memories should contact Mrs. Jacqueline Cutshaw. We look forward to any additions to our teams.
If you are interested in joining the cheerleading team, try-outs will be Apr. 3; all required materials are due on the google classroom by Monday, Mar. 20, and any questions should be emailed to Ms. Leslie Jones: JonesL@hcboe.net.
For sports, Track and Field will hold a scrimmage Tuesday, Mar. 7, in Morristown, TN at 4:00 p.m.. Our Boys’ Soccer team will be playing their preseason game against Fulton this upcoming Friday, Mar. 10. The Trojans’ Varsity Baseball team will be playing against Grainger on Friday, Mar. 10. Come and support your Trojan Athletes!
For upcoming scholarships: The Yamaoka Tuff-Torq Scholarship is a scholarship that is awarded to recognize students for their achievement in the areas of math and science. Priority will be given to the students who are the children/legal dependents of Tuff-Torq employees. Applications are available in the counseling office; the deadline is Mar. 29, 2023.
The ETR Automotive Tech Scholarship is for Seniors who are obtaining a degree or certification in automotive technology and/or restoration; students who show an active interest in the hobby of antique vehicles may apply. Applications are available in the Counseling Office Google Classroom along with more information. The deadline is Mar. 31, 2023.
The “Life. Made Better.” Scholarship: Students must be involved in at least two extracurricular activities and have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA. Letters of recommendation and essays will be required. The deadline for the scholarship will be Mar. 31, 2023.
Josten’s will be in the cafeteria on Wednesday March 22 during 3rd period. Any senior who ordered supplies needs to stop by and see the representative.
In honor of Mr. Brian Marcum, there will be a scholarship available for Seniors who are planning to major in education; applications are available in the counseling office and the deadline will be Apr. 21, 2023.
Students, please make sure all your missing assignments are turned in before the end of the nine weeks. Dual Enrollment students will not have Dual Enrollment classes due to Walters State being on Spring Break this week; classes at West will still be ongoing. Have a great week Trojans!
