Parrott-Wood Library to Host New Programs

The Parrott-Wood Memorial Library in Strawberry Plains will present a series of four history programs about Jefferson County History.
The programs will be held at 4 p.m. Monday afternoons beginning on March 13.
The first program will detail the tragic events of the 1904 New Market Train Wreck.
The March 20 program will describe the Early Settlers who came to Strawberry Plains to make a new home on the frontier.
The March 27 program will focus on the dire straits that Strawberry Plains, and for that matter all of East Tennessee, found itself faced with during the winter of 1863-1864 when both the Confederate and Union Armies made camp after the Battle of Fort-Saunders.
Every Wednesday in March, the library will host budgeting discussions for the community.
Topics can be suggested by the participants and the teacher will accommodate participants wishes.
For six consecutive weeks beginning on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, there will be a budgeting class for young mother’s from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., featuring topics such as housing, child care needs, and low- cost recipes to prepare at home. will be discussed. We will also discuss how to stretch the food budget by shopping wisely at the grocery store.
Ginger Spradlin will present all of the programs.
The last young mother’s budgeting class will be presented on April 11. 2023.
The informative sessions are sponsored through the Dollar General Adult Literacy Grant for 2022-2023.
Library Director Donna Phillips has been instrumental in implementing the grant and the programs.
“We have been fortunate to receive this grant and look forward to the community’s participation,” Phillips said.
