Crossing guard released from hospital following hit and run incident
A Hamblen County Schools crossing guard has been treated and released after a hit and run incident outside Witt Elementary Tuesday morning, according to officials with the Morristown Police Department.
Arnold Bunch, superintendent of Hamblen County Schools, said he is relieved the crossing guard’s injuries were apparently relatively minor.
But he expressed frustration with the driver who struck the crossing guard whose only intent was to protect children trying to get to school.
“I’m extremely disappointed that an incident like this occurred with one of our crossing guards,” he said. “They’re trying to protect our kids and get them to and from school. I encourage everybody in our school zones to slow down and be patient as we get into school.”
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
