Second grade students at Girard College in Philadelphia on Feb. 27, 1969 join in classroom discussion with their teacher Miss Boorse. The 120-year-old private boarding school formerly admitted only “poor white male orphans” until five African American boys were admitted after a court decision on the will of the school’s founder, Stephen Girard.
