Congratulations to the following wrestlers listed below who placed and represented Morristown-West this past Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Sectional Championships.
Tavion Rudolph: 3rd place, 145 lbs.
Ian Carr: 4th place, 152 lbs.
Gage Jordan: 2nd place, 160 lbs.
Brodey Huskey: 2nd place, heavyweight.
The past Wednesday and Thursday, both West View Middle and Lincoln Middle visited and had a tour of the CTE (Career Technical Education) classes and had the opportunity to have a brief experience with teachers introducing the classes. We hope the upcoming Trojans had an amazing tour and a good experience and we look forward to seeing you sign up for the classes. Thursday March 9, all parents of rising freshmen are encouraged to attend the Building the Nation parent meeting in the auditorium of West High at 6:00 p.m. There will be a Spanish spoken meeting in the cafeteria at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, Mar. 16, West View Middle registration will start at 3:30 p.m. and Lincoln Middle registration will be at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Mar. 20.
Attention Seniors, if you have not already filled out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), the deadline is March 1, 2023. In order to qualify for financial aid in college, students must fill out the FAFSA. Some colleges require students to fill out the CSS profile as well.
Current and past criminal justice students, there will be a criminal justice competition at the Greeneville Technical Center on Saturday, March 25, 2023. Students will compete at pulling fingerprints and giving field sobriety with the drunk goggles. If you are interested in competing, please see Mr. Reed for more information.
Students who are interested in being on the West Side Story newspaper staff at Morristown-West, should visit Mrs. Whaley (room 386, downstairs in the main building). Students will learn to manage the school’s online newspaper, WestSideStory.net, as well as online social media pages. In addition to managing the online newspaper, students will also have the opportunity to create and print professional posters. Students are able to sign up for one or both semesters next school year! Join us for a fun business class!
Sophomores who are interested in being on the yearbook staff for West next school year should see Mrs. Cutshaw in room 482 (beside DE store) during 1st or 2nd period, or in the yearbook room (room 447) during 3rd and 4th periods. Being an Astron staff member is an honor and consists of an elite group of students that are dedicated to the production of a quality, error-free yearbook. Staff membership will take a great deal of commitment both during the upcoming year. There is a google form application available in your google classroom.
West High’s cheerleading tryouts will be Apr. 3 through Apr. 6. Students planning to try out should join the google classroom with the code yd4m36b, then click “invite parent/guardian.” All materials are due on google classroom by Monday, Mar. 20. For sports, February 28, Baseball will face Union County at Union County at 5:30 p.m. Trojans’ Basketball will play in the Regional Tournament from Feb. 24 through Mar. 2. March 13 softball will play Greeneville at home at 5:00 p.m. March 7, track and field will scrimmage at home at 4:00 p.m. Best wishes to all spring sports on a successful start!
Upcoming scholarship: The Don’t Drive Drowsy Scholarship is available for graduating high school seniors. The mission of the Don’t Drive Drowsy Foundation is to educate teens on the dangers of driving while sleep deprived and the benefits of a good night’s sleep every night. Applicants have the opportunity to receive $1000. The deadline to apply is March 6, 2023.
Seniors, the Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare will be awarding two scholarships to high school students in Hamblen County and the surrounding counties. Each scholarship will be $750. To qualify, you must be planning to attend college or a postsecondary tech school and enter into a “health related” field. Applications are available in your grade level counseling office Google Classroom. The deadline is Apr. 1, 2023.
In addition, Students who are interested and are planning to attend Walters State Community College, there is a $500 scholarship available. The scholarship is only for students who plan to pursue a career in the healthcare field. Applications are available in the counseling office google classroom. The deadline is April 1, 2023. Students must turn in the applications to Mrs. Gillet by the deadline.
Trojans, we will not have school Monday, Feb. 20, to honor Presidents’ Day. Walters State will still be open; Dual Enrollment students will still have classes that day. We look forward to seeing you all back on Tuesday!
