Student charged after allegedly threatening “mass destruction” at Jefferson Middle

A student was charged Friday after allegedly making a threat of “mass destruction” at school property, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s office.

Friday morning, the administrative staff at Jefferson Middle School received a phone call about a possible threat.

School officials, along with the school resource office, immediately began an investigation.

Investigators with Sheriff’s Office and the Jefferson City Police Department assisted which resulted in charges being placed on a male student for making a threat of mass destruction on school property.

“At no time, was the safety of students or faculty in jeopardy,” the sheriff’s office said in a release. “We are thankful for our students, their parents/guardians for their vigilance with reporting suspicious activity on social media and comments being made by students. Hear something, See something, and Say something has been successful and has lead to nine arrests this school year alone for threats in our schools.

“We strongly encourage conversations at home about threats and how important it is to report these occurrences to school staff and SRO’s.”
