Getting ready for Valentine’s Day
To start off February, the West High Cafe’s Valentines’ Day Sweets Fundraiser have all been placed and will be available for pick up on Feb. 13, and Feb. 14. Students and Staff are able to purchase on Feb. 13 and Feb. 14 during all lunches in the cafeteria. Cinderella’s Closet is open, by appointment only. If you need formal wear, dresses, shoes, makeup free of charge, call 865-287-5118 to schedule an appointment.
Students, if you have filled out a Google form for a parking pass this semester, please see Ms. Jenkins in the front office to pay for the parking pass. Students are also required to have proof of insurance and their license as well. In addition, students are not permitted to park in the front two rows closest to the building in the auditorium lot. These two rows are reserved for faculty, staff, and central office spaces only. Thank you.
West High has also started our Junior meetings for the Class of 2024. Students will be pulled from their classes to meet with their assigned counselors regarding their schedule for their Senior year and graduation requirements as well.
Results for DECA and FBLA tests are back. Congratulations to all who qualified for state! There will be a DECA and FBLA meeting in Mrs. Whaley’s room after school on Monday, Feb. 6, 2023. We will discuss the dates and costs for FBLA and DECA state at this meeting.
HOSA members who are planning to attend the State Leadership conference on Apr. 4, 2023 through Apr. 6, 2023, should turn in their Parent/Guardian signed permission forms and their $40 registration fee by the deadline on Monday, Feb. 6, 2023. Please see Mrs. Skeen with any questions and concerns.
Freshmen, all Beta Club invitations have been sent to your TNN teachers. If you did not receive an invitation and have a GPA of 3.5 or higher or are interested in joining, please see Mrs. Owens(front hallway, room 609) or Ms. Campbell(upstairs, room 711). Club fee is due by Friday, Feb. 10, 2023. Upcoming Beta meeting will be Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2023, after school at 3:05 in the library. We look forward to seeing our new members!
Executive Council will meet Monday, Feb. 6, 2023 in Ms. Cobb’s room during TNN.
In sports this week, basketball will be playing a home game against Unicoi on Thursday, Feb. 9, 2023. The Tennessee State Championship swim meet is at Allan Jones Aquatic Center, UT Friday and Saturday, Feb. 10 and Feb. 11.
Soccer Tryouts will be Monday, Feb. 13, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Burke-Toney Stadium. Be prepared to play; Shin guards are required.
Sophomores who are interested on being on the yearbook staff for West next school year should see Mrs. Cutshaw in room 482(beside DE store) during 1st or 2nd period, or in the yearbook room(room 447) during 3rd and 4th periods. Being an Astron staff member is an honor and consists of an elite group of students that are dedicated to the production of a quality, error-free yearbook. Staff membership will take a great deal of commitment both during the upcoming year. There is a google form application available in your google classroom.
The Don’t Drive Drowsy Scholarship is available for graduating high school seniors. The mission of the Don’t Drive Drowsy Foundation is to educate teens on the dangers of driving while sleep deprived and the benefits of a good night’s sleep every night. Applicants have the opportunity to receive $1000. The deadline to apply is March 6, 2023.
